Porcupine

Porcupines are fascinating mammals known for their distinctive coats of sharp quills, which serve as a defense mechanism against predators. They belong to the family Erethizontidae in the New World and Hystricidae in the Old World, comprising over two dozen species. These nocturnal creatures are primarily herbivores, feeding on leaves, fruits, and bark. Porcupines are adept climbers and swimmers, often inhabiting forested areas, deserts, and grasslands across various continents. Despite their formidable appearance, porcupines are generally solitary and peaceful animals.
