Scrub-bird

Scrub-birds are secretive, ground-dwelling songbirds endemic to Australia, belonging to the ancient family Atrichornithidae. Represented by two species—the Noisy Scrub-bird and the Rufous Scrub-bird—they are known for their powerful, far-reaching calls and cryptic plumage. Found in dense undergrowth of eastern and southwestern Australian forests, scrub-birds are rarely seen but often heard, making them prized sightings for birdwatchers. Both species are threatened, relying on intact habitat and careful conservation for survival.
