Trogon

The Trogon bird family, known for their vibrant plumage and distinctive calls, comprises approximately 43 species distributed across tropical forests worldwide. These birds are characterized by their brilliant iridescent feathers, often in shades of green, blue, and red, which serve as a striking contrast to their muted surroundings. Trogons are cavity nesters, frequently utilizing natural tree holes or abandoned woodpecker nests to rear their young. Their diet primarily consists of insects and fruit, making them important contributors to both pest control and seed dispersal in their ecosystems. Despite their beauty, trogons are elusive creatures, often heard before they are seen, adding an aura of mystery to their tropical habitats.
