Chachalaca

The Chachalaca bird family, belonging to the genus Ortalis, is a group of gregarious and noisy birds native to Central and South America. These birds are known for their distinctive, loud calls, which often echo through the forests they inhabit. Chachalacas are medium-sized, with long tails and a preference for dense vegetation where they feed on fruits, seeds, and small invertebrates. Their social behavior is evident as they often move in flocks, communicating with each other through their raucous vocalizations. Despite their somewhat plain appearance, Chachalacas play a crucial role in their ecosystems as seed dispersers.
