Vulture

Vultures are large birds of prey known for their distinctive appearance and crucial ecological role as nature’s cleanup crew. They belong to two distinct families: the Old World vultures, found in Africa, Europe, and Asia, which are part of the Accipitridae family, and the New World vultures, native to the Americas, which belong to the Cathartidae family. These scavenging birds have keen eyesight and an extraordinary sense of smell, particularly in the case of New World vultures, allowing them to locate carrion from great distances. Their featherless heads and necks are adaptations that help them stay clean while feeding on carcasses, preventing the buildup of bacteria. Vultures play a vital role in ecosystems by disposing of dead animal remains, thus preventing the spread of diseases.
