Tapaculo

Tapaculos are a diverse family of small, ground-dwelling birds primarily found in Central and South America. Known for their elusive nature, these birds often inhabit dense underbrush and are more frequently heard than seen. Tapaculos are characterized by their short wings, strong legs, and distinctive loud calls. Their plumage is generally dull-colored, aiding in their camouflage in forested habitats. Despite their secretive lifestyle, tapaculos play a vital role in the ecosystem by aiding in insect control and seed dispersal.
