Nighthawk

The Nighthawk bird family, known scientifically as Chordeilinae, is a fascinating group of nocturnal birds primarily found in the Americas. These birds are recognized for their cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage against the forest floor and open fields where they often reside. Nighthawks are insectivorous, using their wide mouths to scoop up flying insects in mid-air. Their distinctive, erratic flight patterns and the unique ‘peent’ calls are a common sight and sound during twilight hours. Although often mistaken for bats due to their flight behavior, Nighthawks are indeed birds and play an essential role in controlling insect populations.
