The Hardhead bird, scientifically known as Aythya australis, is a medium-sized duck native to Australia. This species is the only member of the Aythya genus found in Australia and is recognized for its distinctive appearance, characterized by a dark brown head and a contrasting white underside. Hardheads are often found in freshwater lakes and swamps, where they feed on aquatic plants and small invertebrates. Known for their strong flying abilities, these birds are also adept divers, often plunging underwater to forage for food. Despite their robust nature, habitat loss and environmental changes pose threats to their populations.
