Barbet

Barbets are colourful, stout-bodied birds found across tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Recognised for their thick, chisel-like bills and vibrant plumage, barbets are primarily fruit-eaters but also consume insects. Their loud, repetitive calls are a familiar sound in forested habitats, often used to mark territory. Barbets nest in tree cavities they excavate themselves, playing an important role in ecosystem health by dispersing seeds and creating nesting sites for other species.
