Pangolin

Pangolins, often referred to as ‘scaly anteaters,’ belong to the unique mammal family Manidae. These intriguing creatures are known for their distinctive overlapping scales, which are made of keratin—the same material found in human nails. There are eight species of pangolins, found across Asia and Africa, each adapted to a variety of habitats ranging from tropical forests to savannahs. Pangolins are nocturnal and primarily feed on ants and termites, using their long, sticky tongues to capture prey. Unfortunately, they are also one of the most trafficked mammals in the world, facing severe threats from poaching and habitat loss, thus requiring urgent conservation efforts.
