Platypus
The platypus, a unique member of the mammal family, is native to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Known for its distinctive features, the platypus possesses a duck-bill, webbed feet, and a beaver-like tail, showcasing a blend of traits from birds, reptiles, and mammals. This fascinating monotreme lays eggs rather than giving birth to live young, a rare characteristic among mammals. Its ability to hunt underwater using electroreception further sets it apart. The platypus plays a significant role in its ecosystem, maintaining the balance of insect populations and supporting the health of its aquatic habitat.
