Marievale Bird Sanctuary
[VMarievale]
by Gordon King Date Added: Monday 23 August, 2010
Spring has returned at last at Marievale despite the -2 temperatures in the early morning with several migratory species being spotted with Ruff, Marsh Sandpiper, Little Stint and a White-throated Swallow all being present on Sunday morning. There have been some fire break burns done as well as repairs to the road network within Marievale after the heavy flooding of the last rainy season, so the roads are again passable for normal cars. Other species seen included African Fish Eagle, Black Shouldered Kite, Spur-winged Goose, African Pipit, a single Red-capped Lark, lots of widow-birds, weavers and bishops. Overall the reserve still supports large populations of waterfowl and is always worth a visit!..
