The reserve itself is just as good as ever with plenty of bushveld birds around including Lesser Grey Shrike, Willow Warbler, Grey Hornbill,Woodpeckers, Little Egret and many others. The reserve infrastructure has suffered a setback with a fire having destroyed a large part of the visitors center. After all the rain, the trails have become quite overgrown and will need some maintenance if they are to remain useable. Both the picnic area and reception area's are in dire need of having the lawns mowed.
