The Green Malkoha is one of the most fascinating and little known of birds in Southern Africa in my opinion. Where did you see it Neil?

nkgray replied the topic:
Hanno,

On my 2001 week at Sobhengu I was putting on my walking boots to go out for a pre-breakfast walk when I noticed a Narina Trogon (lifer) sitting no more than 7-8m away on a branch overhanging the braai area. When I went outside for a better look I noticed a call emanating from the same tree that definitely was not a Trogon. This was a Malkoha (lifer). 2 lifers and the sun not up 5 minutes! 2001 was a very good year - possibly because it was a very wet summer in those parts.

I've since seen Green Malkoha twice more at Sobhengu, in 2002 and 2004. These remain my only sightings of this bird - so Sobhengu is the place to be.

Neil
