As a newbie birder I thought I'd give TwitchLister a try. So after downloading it I tried installing it only to find the .exe file missing. In fact the programs folder only had about two or three files in it, which is unusual for an application. After a bit of a search I found all the needed files somewhere else on the hard drive and moved them to the programs folder. At last I got the thing to run. Oh.....but wait now it wants a username and password!!!!! But this is supposed to be FREE software! That's when I deleted everything on my computer to do with TwitchLister. If the installation files are so badly written just imagine what the rest of the program must be like. I hope this guy does not call himself a programmer and if he does then he should look for another hobby (one that does not involve a computer!).

Hi zophas,

The current version and subsequent versions are and will remain free.

Doug is not a programmer so don't worry too much about his current profession... :D

We released this BETA version to help people keep track of their birding records. Because this is only a BETA version there are going to be bugs (unfortunately!).

However I am in the process of writing a new version using the latest Microsoft development tools. Since I am doing this in my spare time it is still going to take a while to finish. Hopefully it will be worth waiting for!

The startup username is Admin and the password is password.

I hope that helps (should you change your mind and install it again?)

Thanks!
Gordon

Thanks for the reply, Gordon.
Don't think I will be trying Twitchlister again. I've set up a Excel spreadsheet which will do very nicely for the time being.
My list is embarassingly short at the moment as I have only just started with the ID of birds. Got a long way to go. :D

Excel is a great tool and lots of people use it for keeping their lists.

Even if you only have 1 on your list, it means you are making an effort!

I am having pretty much the same problem with the 1.02 version. I installed it, but the files weren't there. Finally got to copy them to the folder, which was a bit of a task with this stupid vista. Finally got to the password input but after I put in the username and password I got an error message that a path was unknown (something about microsoft access - what does that have to do with it?). So I went back and deleted all the files that are all over the place. Well there is probably more somewhere, who knows with this vista nonsense.

Hi darth,

With any luck and time permitting I should have a new version of TwitchLister out by August at the earliest.

Cheers,
Gordon
