This is a wonderful and lightweight new app loosely based on the book Signs of the wild – A field guide to the spoor and signs of the wild by Clive Walker. The book includes images and a narrative giving interesting facts about the species while the call is played in the background.

Being that it is based on the book; the app also includes images of the spoor as well as images of the scat for each species. Other facts, identification features as well as similar species can be found in the app.

Currently the app contains a smaller selection of well-known mammals and does not cover all southern African mammal species; however as the book is intended for beginners and children those using the book will thoroughly enjoy learning about the animals represented!

Children in particular will love “driving” the steering wheel to flip through the different images for each species. In addition the calls can be played over a car audio system that can interact with your device using either Bluetooth, data cable or headphone socket.

In all a fun and easy to use app and comes well recommended!
