Well done Amanda! Remember though, you can't tick birds by their call in the Gauteng challenge .......but ID via call is OK for SABAP and BBD

When's the next competition, Doug?

Congrats Amanda

We were away a couple of weeks ago in the warmbaths area and we must heard about 40 of these birds calling it is the first time I have heard them in such huge numbers and they literally called from sunrise to sunset. On the same night we also heard freckled nightjar. I got some pics of an individual. The pic joins my ever growing list of nightjar pics that have not been PI'd. Any body up for the challenge (the pics do show some wing and tail feather detail for a change)

Thanks everyone, I must say that if somebody gave me a Nightjar in hand, I wouldn't be in a position to id it at all. I have recently listened to, and tried to memorise the calls of the more common birds, but other than that I'm useless. Luckily I'm not taking part in the Gauteng challenge, so I don't have to see them
I'm going to KNP on the 13th for 5 days, I hope the Nightjars will call, because in January when we were there we didn't hear one nightjar. (Lower Sabie, Satara, Letaba)
