Day 8 was to be an arduous one. Up at 05:00, breakfast, 3 hours birding in Samburu, then hit the road to Nairobi for the flight to Joburg, arriving back at OR Tambo at 23:15.

As I said on my first Samburu post the best, as you will see, was saved for last. First though some of the others.

Pygmy Falcon - male and female

Red-bellied (African Orange-bellied) Parrot

Red-fronted Warbler

Red-tailed Shrike - male and female

Rosy-patched Bush Shrike - male and female; these birds are sitting less than 1m apart facing each other while singing a duet

Somali Bee-eater

Somali Ostrich - legs of male are blue-grey, and bill is redder than Common Ostrich

Spotted Palm Thrush

Ashy Cisticola

Taita Fiscal

Three-streaked Tchagra - the real one! not our Brown-crowned Tchagra.

Yellow-necked Spurfowl

Vulturine Guineafowl - another one of those "must see" birds when flicking through your bird guide

White-headed Buffalo Weaver - not too far behind in the beauty contest

This is a Superb Starling

but for truly superb, try the Golden-breasted Starling

and that final tick before leaving Samburu....

....could it be?

.... surely not!

.... IT IS <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon/biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

GOLDEN PIPIT

Talk about going out with a bang. I wasn't going to top that!

Thanks everyone for your comments. If you are thinking of birding in East Africa let me put you in touch with Moses Kandie. He can put together a fantastic trip for you, whether you want to do it at the luxury lodge level or camping. There are some some amazing birding venues in Kenya - Samburu, Lake Baringo, Nakuru and Kakamega Forest would be an amazing trip.

I am now back in Chile for the next 3 months, so will hopefully be posting a few more lifers from here.
