Day 3 saw us leaving the Masai Mara and heading for Nyahururu (Thomson's Falls), where we stayed in the Thomson's Falls Hotel situated next to the spectacular waterfall. Late afternoon birding was done in the grounds of the hotel and from a lookout point at the falls where we could look down-river along the gorge. The following morning we birded the trail through the forest along the edge of the gorge.

A total of 42 species was seen, including 7 lifers, and the late evening birding at the falls produced among others Augur Buzzard, Crowned Eagle, Rufous-chested Sparrowhawk, Lanner Falcon and Scarce Swift.

Abyssinian Thrush - a split from the Olive Thrush

Cape Robin-Chat - juvenile of sub-species iolema

Chestnut-throated Apalis

Cinnamon Bracken Warbler

Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater

Eastern Double-collared Sunbird - male

Golden-winged Sunbird - male and female

Grey Apalis

Grey Cuckooshrike

Kenya Sparrow - male

Kikuyu White-Eye - split from Montane White-Eye

Northern Puffback

Sharpe's Starling

Spot-flanked Barbet

Streaky Seedeater

Thick-billed Seedeater
