nkgray created the topic: Peru - Ite Wetlands; a BirdLife International IBA - Part 2
Having spent some time in the saltmarsh and pans area I moved to the western end of the Ite Wetlands adjacent to the Playa Arena Blanca, very reminscent of Marievale.

First birds seen were the numerous Neotropic Cormorant

and Andean Coot, which sports a number of different combinations of shield/bill colour combinations. Here are two of them.

Next to catch my eye was a solitary Whimbrel sub-species hudsonicus

I lost all interest in it though, when trying to get closer for a better photo I was waylaid by the coup of the day, a rare visitor even to Ite, and not one but eleven Wilson's Phalarope <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon/biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> .

I thought that would take some topping but the next three were all lifers too.

Great Grebe

Little Blue Heron, which I unfortunately could not photograph, and his bigger cousin the Tricoloured Heron

then some familiar faces from South Africa, a Green-backed Heron

and a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron sub-species hoactli

Another lifer in a Puna Ibis

some egrets, a Great Egret sub-species egretta

and an adult and juvenile Snowy Egret

and surprisingly only two species of duck

the Cinnamon Teal, these both males

and the strikingly handsome White-cheeked Pintail, this the sub-species rubrirostris or Greater Bahama Pintail
