Hi all

Never having been before, Jenny and I decided to treat ourselves with a 2-week self-guided birding tour of Australia last December.

We spent some time in Perth with friends, and then visited Darwin and Kakadu National Park, Cairns and vicinity, and Melbourne (one night)

The colour and variety of the Ozzie birds is awesome. Here are some of the 212 lifers <!-- s:spin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/spin.gif" alt=":spin:" title="Spinning" /><!-- s:spin: -->

Black Swan (at Yalgorup south of Perth)

Splendid Fairy Wren (at Wungong Gorge east of Perth)

Galah (at King's Park in Perth)

White-bellied Sea Eagle (at Yellow Waters, Kakadu National Park)

Plumed Whistling Duck (at Yellow Waters, Kakadu National Park)

Jabiru - Black-necked Stork (at Yellow Waters, Kakadu National Park)

Crimson Finch (at Fogg Dam, near Kakadu)

Australian Brush Turkey (at Kingfisher Park, north of Cairns)

Australian Bustard (Mary Farms, inland of Cairns)

Southern Cassowary (well before dawn at Mission Beach, south of Cairns)
Forgot to use the flash, didn't I?

Common Noddy (Michaelmas Cay, 25 km offshore from Cairns)

Australian King Parrot

If anyone would like more info about the trip, please e-mail me

Regards
Peter

Beautiful pics, Peter. We're still dreaming about a trip to OZ and New Zealand.
What are the birds with the Common Noddy?

Have absolutely no field experience with Common Noddy but I would say looking at the shape of teh adult and the other birds with I would agree that they must be youngsters of teh same species?

Fantastic photos Peter, thanks for sharing. I absolutely love the colours of the Splendid Fairy Wren, certainly lives up to its 'splendid' name. Mariana's daughter and son-in-law are currently preparing to emigrate to either OZ or NZ next year (depending where they can find work) so I think we'd best start saving our money to visit them!

Thanks for the compliments :)

Amanda - The other birds in the Noddy pic are juvenile Sooty Terns. There were also hundreds of them on Michaelmas cay.

I have a few more pics to share, so watch out for posting number 2.
