I may not be having too much success photographing the Guinea birds - despite a list now standing at 175 I haven't been able to photograph more than about 20 species - but the butterflies are more than making up for that. I now have 37 different species. Below some from the past few weeks. The first is a Red Glider, as for the rest I'm waiting till I can get at my reference books back in SA. The third one is rather interesting (4th shot is the underwing), with a wingspan of only 2.5-3cm!

I don't know anything about butterflies but I do recognize the one third from the bottom as being either the same or similar to ones I see quite often on the Zaagkuilsdrift road...

Hi,

You do not have to wait till you get your books.

The pix are:

1 Cymothoe sangaris
2 Cymothoe mabillei
3 Hypolycaena lebona
4 Hypolycaena hatita I do not believe picture 3 is the same butterfly - if so the underside IDis the correct one
5 Protogoniomorpha cytora - may need to be transferred to Junonia on molecular grounds
6 Hypolimnas misippus male

Great pix - see that Torben Larsen has ID'd them for you - he probably knows more about WA butterflies than anyone else alive.

With photo skills like yours you should really join Lepsoc Africa - <!-- w -->www.lepsoc.org.za<!-- w -->

Cheers

Thanks Torben & Steve - To heavyweights (and I am not refering to your figures) of African Butterflies.

Steve,

I am going to get Neil to join Lepsoc one of these days - even if it is just to get me off his back!!!!!!
