Maybe those who like fishing can help me identify these fish. And do they taste good?

Hi Widus,

These are Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) and as with all bream species they are great for angling as well as for eating, but considering these guys are in a Nature Reserve I guess they won't be on the plate. :D

Thank you Rusty for the ID. I am not too sure about the safety of the fish because it is possible to fish in this Nature Reserve ( http://www.opengreenmap.org/greenmap/ca ... serve-2703 ). I read that this species can be invasive in some countries but, paradoxically, is itself threatened in his native area by the Nile Tilapia ([i:h916vc2e]Oreochromis niloticus[/i:h916vc2e]). I wonder if this latter species can also be found in Rondevlei.

What is more interesting is that this species is not native to the western cape. It was probably introduced through one of the aquaculture projects in the area!
