Hi all.

I had a chance to go and see the undetground tunneling at Rosebank and spent some time this morning photographing what is truly a massively impressive feat of engineering.

Here are a few pics I took.

I took it on the first day of operation from Sandton to the airport. Despite taking longer to get a ticket than the actual journey. It sure beat sitting on the R21 panicking in peak hour traffic that you were going to miss your flight. They should have envisaged building it years ago. What a pleasure. The most touching moment, was when the train pulled off, all the passengers began singing Shoshaloza. It was that rainbow nation feeling all over again.

I think there are many more "rainbow nation" moments to come.

A guy on the trip was telling us all the amazing "premier class" services metro rail have we do not even know about. There is actually so much good public transport available that we as south africans are not even aware of. I wish government departments would publicize the good stuff they do......

>>"premier class" services metro rail have

Plenty of my colleagues use this service to commute to work in Cape Town. They only sell as many tickets as there are seats, so no overcrowding. You get served coffee and newspapers and there's wireless access in the carriages so you can handle all your emails before getting to the office. Price-wise it is attractive too.

Your photos remind me a bit of the Northern Line on the London Underground - all tunnels, no trains! <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->
