Some shots this past weekend from Tshokwane north of Lower Sabie in the Kruger Park. Hopefully, I have the correct sequence in plumage changes in these Greater Blue-eared Starling.

juvenile 3 months (?) - yellow gape, grey eyes, dull grey underparts

juvenile 4-5 months (?) - yellow gape gone, grey eyes, first blue in underparts

juvenile 6 months - yellow eyes, grey in underparts taking on brown/bronze hue

adult

and finally this oddity with a deformed bill can't seem to make up his mind what he wants to look like <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? -->

I agree wholeheartedly there, Doug, this section helps newbies like me and my other half immensely as we often get confused with juveniles.

Excellent photos, Neil, and well presented.
