At present, there seems to be very conflicting views as to wether the nostril shape of Aquilas for ID is in fact correct.

I read it in Eagles, Hawks and Falcons of the world, Page 654 under Field Charachters...
"In Europe distinguished from Spotted Eagles by oval, not round, nostril, rounded tail, broader, more rounded wings."

I also found the same information in Roberts VII, page 530, 4th line up, left hand column.
"Nostril rounded (not slotted, as most other Aquila Eagles)"

Again printed in Ian Sinclair's Photographic guide, 2nd Edition, page 76
