Does anybody know when the last white backed night heron was seen in the Southern Cape?

I have a friend his first saw one in Knysna in 1992. I also note that in SABAP1 there are records for the area, but none in SABAP2 :(

Have they gone completely? If so, this is very sad.... I have also searched Keerbooms river in Plett, where they also used to be found, but no luck there either.

Hi Warren,

Thanks for the info. That is kinda sad. :(

I wonder if they perished, or just moved on?

I guess if you have to catch fish every day, and for three days the river is flooded to the extent that you can't fish at all, anything is possible.
