Hi All,

I've been having some fun creating videos lately and am still very very much a total beginner at it!

I am thinking of getting a video camera and was wondering if I should get a DSLR that combines still and video functionality?

Has anyone out there got a little experience with this and what to look out for?
Things like going for HD or 4K, frame rate, AF in video mode, types of lenses required or recommended?

Lot's of questions.... :)

Here is just another video shot on my old iphone of our kitten exploring her new bed...

Thanks!

The Panasonic Lumix FZ300 is a bridge camera that shoots 4k video as well as high quality photos with a 25-600 mm lens. I have the previous model, the FZ200 and it is capable of lovely wildlife photos (the limiting factor is usually me).

Thanks Steve, I had not thought of a bridging camera. I know your still photos are very good, do you have any videos?

I have a short one I took on a pelagic that can induce sea-sickness. There are these two as well: http://ibc.lynxeds.com/users/steve-clark

OK, not bad. Do you remember how far away the birds were?

Nice and close. A tripod would be handy.

You probably should buy binoculars first!

I was thinking of getting scope, binoculars, camera and lenses plus a bunch of porters carrying it all, preferably with me in a high carry chair being carried by more porters.... can't seem to find any porters on ebay? :)

Thanks, I think Canon and Sony probably have the best options for video.
