Its that time again (every two years when my phone contract can be renewed) when I suffer from info overload from all the technology available!

Anybody got idea's about what phone to get? Blackberry, HTC, iPhone, and what birding software to put on it?

All suggestions/ experience welcome.

It's really sad when you go into the phone shop and ask the assistant if the built in speakers are loud enough to call a green malakoa from deep within a forest, and you get these totally blank stares from techno-nerds who don't have a clue what you are on about, and why you would want to do that in the forst place <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

iPhone... End of debate.. I have an Android phone currently and I hate it... Android for me.. and this is just my experience.. is completely user unfriendly, clumsy, annoying and full of so many bugs I have identified at least 4 clear identifiable bugs JUST IN THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY. Android hangs repeatedly, gives me runtime errors all the time, forever force closes my applications while I am busy in them and overall is just extremely frustrating.

One guy at the office has a blackberry and having seen iPhone too... he is getting rid of his blackberry now and replacing it with an iPhone.

In short... Get an iPhone. If you don't... I accept absolutely no responsibility for any trauma you may experience from your erroneous decision

As for what app you use... That debate has been covered a few times in the Sasol vs Roberts eBirds debate although I think iPhone excludes you from using Roberts Multimedia but I stand under correction...

I am not sure how true this is but apparently about 40% of Android phones are returned because people are unhappy with them.

If you can wait - there is supposed to be a new iPhone coming out very soon. End of September to early October seems to be the common prediction - http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iPhone

I run the SASOL guide on my iPod Touch and it is excellent but the built-in speakers are not really loud enough to pull in a skulking Green Malkoha. Otherwise an excellent combination.

Cheers
Steve

From what I hear, Blackburry is not doing well overseas. iPhone is very good... Some of the newer Samsung phones are very good. All personal choice with regards the phones but just make sure that the birding software you purchase is compatible...

I have just upgraded to Samsung Galaxy i9100 S2, specifically because it is Android, cheaper than iphone and also can run Sasol eBirds (and hopefully Roberts soon)
The screen is beautiful. Sound is good although haven't tried to call the Malkoha yet;-) but beware the battery life is not good.
I would definitely recommend this phone.
