Just a quick note of thanks to Stan Madden for organising the Marievale winter CWAC count and to all those that braved the early morning cold!

About 50 people participated in teams of up to 6 in each team. Apart from a presumed escaped Red-crested Pochard and one or two migrant birds, among them a lone Barn Swallow and a Greenshank, there was rather a low number of water birds to be seen. The theory is that all the surrounding pans and dams in the area are still full from the good rains at the end of the last season, so there is no need for the water birds to congregrate at Marievale like they would do in dry periods.
