Still only have a 100mm macro lens for my SLR, so not much bird photography happening at the moment. Was able to snap these two at WSBG this morning.

Cheers,
Justin

Thanks. The Heron was at the Sasol dam.

Nice photos, I saw the Green-backed Heron as the sasol dam about week and a half ago...So seems like its hanging around!

Great photos, Justin. I keep meaning to go down there to photograph the sunbirds but never seem to get round to it.

Mark, we saw and photographed the Green Backed Heron the first time we ever went to the dam (over two years ago) but have never seen it since - nice to know it's still visiting. Justin's photo is better than the ones we got with my old 5mp compact back then.

I go to WSBG at least twice a week, and the Green-backed Heron has always been there.... a nice one for WS. Last week however, for the first time, I saw a Little Grebe there too, following the African Black Ducks where ever they went.

Also good news, is that it seems that the Little Sparrowhawks that nest there, have rebuild another nest and are back, after their previous nest had been destroyed.

I'm conjuring up visions of Justin creeping around in full camo with the 100mm lens trying to get close enough to use it for bird photography... I know the feeling!

Mossie, it was someting along those lines, minus the camo.

Yolande, where are the Little Sparrowhawk nesting at the gardens?

Justin

Justin, as you enter WS and turn right towards the Sasol hide, just before crossing the river there is a path to the right ( which is now a "cul de sac" - right at the end of this path, by the bench: they use to nest in the tree right infront of the bench but now it's towards the right of that tree - can't miss it though. And then the Peregrine is close to the Black Eagles nest....
