Hi all.

Thanks to Allan Traub for origionally finding the bird. I believe he first saw it at about 05h30. Anyway here are the pics and a link to a 10 MB video clip showing the spinning feeding action.

Here is the address for the video.

I got woken by a phone call at 6:30 this morning from Doug to say that Allan had just pointed out a Red Phalarope to him. 5 minutes in the shower and skid marks down the road (hopefully I managed to get my speed down over that trap in Germiston)... hey, it was a lifer... :-)

The bird was still there when I left at 8:45, spinning faster than a yuppie at morning gym! :-)

It's back, Doug just phoned to say Clive Kaplan has just reported the Phalarope is back near the bridge at Marievale! 5:15pm

Good luck if you intend to chase it!

Quite a number of people searched for the phalarope this morning (9/12/2005). Even though they may not have seen the bird a few were rewarded for the effort with good views of a Western (Eurasian) Marsh Harrier, Slaty Egret and calling Redchested Flufftail.

Hi:

There are quite a few bridges at Marievale. Was the bird spotted near the bus stop hide or at another bridge. Does anyone know where the blacktailed godwit was last seen?
