Exploratory trip around the Nigel, Suikerbosrand area.

There are quite a few hills lying just to the south of Nigel, leading in several lines west and east. Today I followed the dirt link road from Nigel through these hills to the Balfour road. My first pictures are from this road:

A vlei running from the platuea down towards the Blesbokspruit just outside of Nigel:

These next shots are from the floodplain at the top of this platuea, included is a close up of some of the 500 or more Spurwing Geese that are up there at the moment. Unseen in the photo are hundreds of African Snipe:

Next we followed one of the dirt roads across the N3 and followed the Suikerbosrand River as close as we could towards Heidelberg:

All in all it's an area well worth exploring in the spring as the whole area is covered in pans and flooded grasslands.
