j-ms created the topic: African Crake in Port Elizabeth
At 12:15 this afternoon (Sunday 11 June), I found an African Crake (Crecopsis Egregia) lying in my driveway at Schoenmakerskop near Port Elizabeth. It was newly dead, rigor mortis having not set in yet. Interesting because it is almost 1000 kays outside its range and summer is long over.

Not the species, I am sure, that you expected to find dead, in your garden in the middle of winter!

After chatting to fellow birders about this African Crake, it appears that in the 1970s African Crake had been regularly heard near Schoenmakerskop, but never seen.
