If you are at the Iguassu Falls then you must pay a visit to the Parque Das Aves in Foz do Iguaçu on the Brazilian side of the border. They are located on the main road from the town out to the Falls. You can find out more about the bird park at although the site is currently being redeveloped and has no more than opening hours and an interactive Google Earth location map.

The park is devoted largely to Brazilian species, many of which are threatened, vulnerable or endangered, although there are some exotic species as well.

The first of two posts from there is of toucans and a few others. The second will be devoted to parrots.

The common toucan of the area which you should see in the wild on a visit to the Falls is the Toco Toucan

White-throated (Red-billed) Toucan

Red-breasted (Green-billed) Toucan

..and 2 of the smaller toucan species, the Spot-billed Toucanet

Black-necked Aracari

Now, a variety of other species.

Harpy Eagle

King Vulture

Azure Jay

Red-ruffed Fruitcrow

Bare-faced Curassow - male and female

Scarlet Ibis

Campo Troupial

Red-legged Seriema
