nkgray created the topic: Chile - some coastal birds
I spent Monday night in a hotel close to the seafront in the city of Arica right in the north of Chile, and managed to squeeze in an hour just after sunrise and before breakfast and the drive across the border into Peru. Three lifers among the birds I was able to photograph and two other that were photographed for the first time.

These were just two of a dozen Black-crowned Night Heron sitting on and around the hotel's restaurant -

adult

and immature

Then on and from the beach -

Neotropic Cormorant

1st year Belcher's Gull

1st year Grey Gull

1st year Andean Gull (lifer)

Whimbrel

Peruvian Pelican

Peruvian Booby (lifer)

American Oystercatcher (lifer)

Turkey Vulture

...and if getting picked clean on the roulette tables is not enough!
