Anyone up for a challenge?Wall PhotosAs mentioned, this year we have a few surprises for your and this is one of them- We have launched the Randburg 50 Birds/ 5 Days Birding Challenge. One would think that this small area extremely close to Sandton CBD wouldn't produce some nice birds but they are beyond wrong. Randburg is a hidden gem with records such as Natal Francolin, Fairy Flycatcher, European Honey Buzzard, Little Bittern,Grey Headed Gull and Half Collared Kingfisher. It consists of many various birding spots which are hidden and not a lot of birders know about them hence they tend to produce much less common species. The new birding division here at JK Nature Guiding (JK Nature Guiding-Birding) has developed this challenge in order to raise awareness and an interest in the more common highveld species. One of our Bird Guides, John Kinghorn, completed this challenge last week with a total of 63 species and 8 Hours 15 Minuites still remaining. If he was able to do the challenge full time he would have been able to complete it in 3 days. This is summer however and winter is a very different story. The challenge can be done by anyone who do not wish for a JK Nature Guiding Bird Guide to accompany them but of course it is suggested that one accompanies you so that you can connect with all of your species as our local guides know the area very well. When inquiring about the challenge one can drop us an email on <!-- e --><a href="][/url]<!-- e -->. The guides will only be available when they can make it and arrangement's will have to be made to suite both client and guides time table. They will also only be available in December/January and April.
