I've recently seen two interesting species at Sunset dam in Kruger. On 10 Oct 2011 a single Greater Flamingo was flying over the dam. The following day I saw it in the Sabie river opposite Lower Sabie camp.

On 12 Oct 2011 I was even more surprised to see this Cape Shoveller flying across the dam.

Both were Kruger-lifers for me. Unfortunately I didn't have birders with me, so my guests wasn't as excited as I was. They prefered the hippos.

Nice to get the Cape Shoveller there, looks from the maps that it must be right on the edge of its range...

Cheers,
Gordon
