Hi All,

Thanks to Dave and his wife for their hospitality and showing me one of their local birding spots!

We managed to get several nice birds for the day including, Brimstone Canary, Yellow-fronted Canary, Little Bee-eater, Dusky Flycatcher, Mangrove Kingfisher, Terek Sandpiper, Whimbrel, Curlew Sandpiper, Little Stint, Pink-backed Pellican and a few others.

Both Mangrove Kingfisher and Terek Sandpiper were lifers for me!

Thanks Gordon,

Sharing one of the Durban spots for the morning was a great pleasure - not only did I see the Mangrove Kingfisher again (first time was April last year at the same site), but had the camera on the correct settings this time, so managed to get a few decent photos for my collection.

Thanks to your birding knowledge, I'm also able to confirm a few more lifers: Terek Sandpiper, Curlew Sandpiper, Grey Plover and Lesser Crested Tern.

Regards,
Dave

Glad you also managed to add a couple of lifers on the day! <!-- s:bouncy: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/bouncy.gif" alt=":bouncy:" title="Enthusiastic" /><!-- s:bouncy: -->

Thanks Doug, we needed your ear with some of the calls we were hearing!

Just added Purple-banded Sunbird to my life list this morning at the end of a 4 hour walk through Ballito!! <!-- s:spin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/spin.gif" alt=":spin:" title="Spinning" /><!-- s:spin: --> <!-- s:bouncy: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/bouncy.gif" alt=":bouncy:" title="Enthusiastic" /><!-- s:bouncy: --> <!-- s:yes: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/yes.gif" alt=":yes:" title="Yes" /><!-- s:yes: -->

Awesome, the Mangrove Kingfisher is still on my list of nemesis birds that keep avoiding me <!-- s:biting: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/biting.gif" alt=":biting:" title="Frustration" /><!-- s:biting: -->
