Hi all,

Was out atlasing this morning in the East London area and after having ridiculously good looks at an African Finfoot swimming and feeding in a pool about 20m away I stumbled upon 2 Magpie Mannikins in a small patch of reeds next to the Nahoon River in Horse-shoe Valley. These birds have become regular-ish visitors (in small numbers) to two gardens in Bonnie Doon (a suburb of EL) and have also been seen directly across the Nahoon River in the Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve. I'm no good at judging distance but this is quite a way (neighbouring pentad) from where I saw the birds today.

This was only my second sighting of the mannikins so in my excitement I fought and fumbled with the camera and pretty much messed up my opportunity <!-- s:banghead: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/banghead.gif" alt=":banghead:" title="Frustration" /><!-- s:banghead: --> but if you close one eye and squint you can sort of make out what the bird is
