Doug created the topic: A new garden bird list
HI all.

I spent this weekend moving out to near fourways mall and was wondering what my new garden bird list would be like.... It would be hard to top the 96 species of our Craighall Park garden.

Anyway as I went to fetch the estate agent, to my surprise I looked up and TWO African Harrier-hawk were flying around in the air above the complex. Hopefully with African Harrier-hawk being the very first bird on my new garden list might be a sign of things to come. Other than that did not have much time to bird whilst moving but I added Cape Sparrow, Cape Long-claw, Dark-capped Bulbul and Hadeda Ibis.

Well now that I am only 10 minutes drive from Northern farm that will have to be my new home away from home for regular birding!

Cheers,
Doug

Hi Doug

The fourways birding is very good. Something to look forward to whilst sitting in the fourways traffic. The harrier hawks are residents in the area. You will probably pick up brown hooded kingfisher and southern boubou in a short time, and all the common seed eaters are in abundance in the area, and lots of excellent summer migrants.

How green is a postage stamp? Quite a few trees etc but not much indigenous but there is at least one old nest in the garden so I need to keep an eye out for a new owner.

It must be great starting a new garden list, every addition will feel a bit like getting a lifer again I would imagine. Looking forward to some photos in the near future.

I can't lend you a large axe if you want to get rid of any of the exotics <!-- s:twisted: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt=":twisted:" title="Twisted Evil" /><!-- s:twisted: -->
