Well, I'm embarking shortly on the slightly over 2 hours (45km !) drive to the airfield near Banankoro to pick up the weekly flight to Conakry, from where I head for Paris this evening and Joburg tomorrow (my first day flight from Europe). I'll be spending all of 2 nights in Joburg as my wife and I are off to London to see our new grand-daughter. From the UK I will be heading straight back to Guinea for another 6 weeks!

While in the UK I intend to visit one of the big puffin breeding colonies - the Puffin is on my own birding "bucket list" - so watch this space.

My contributions may be few and far between from now till mid-August, but with the Canon and the big lens on these 2 trips let's hope quality can replace quantity.

Assuming no further additions on the drive to the airfield I have ended my month in Guinea with 92 species.

Will post final list when I can, just got the signal we are hitting the road.

P.S. Able to log on in Conakry - no additions on the way to the airfield, but as we landed at Conakry there was a large flock of Woolly-necked Stork alongside the runway. Probably more together in one place than all the odd ones I have seen over the years put together. Couldn't help the thought, "Wouldn't want that lot in an engine at take-off".

So the final tally of 93 species is given below, with the 34 non-Southern Africa species highlighted in red.

An impressive list, Neil, looking forward to some great photos when you return with the Canon to Guinea. Maybe we'll even see a shot of Gray's West African Snake-Eating Duck!
