The N'Zerekore garden came up with Common Fiscal, Village Weaver and Tawny-flanked Prinia this morning, showing just how widespread in Africa some of our commoner South African birds are. In fact the prinia is probably one of the most widespread birds on the continent. The Village Weaver was of the ssp nigriceps so somewhat different to our SA one, but nonetheless a Village Weaver.

Other sightings for the day outside the town included Senegal Coucal, Blue-spotted Wood-Dove and another lifer in Black Dwarf Hornbill.

Doug would be in his element here. Some of the calls from the thick forest (I think I would be right in saying jungle - see photo below) are so strange that I couldn't even begin to decide even what family I might be dealing with. I'm afraid pocket 10x25 Tascos are no use whatsover for canopy birds when the trees are 25-30m tall!

Hi Neil,

Do you have space in your suitcase for any stragglers? <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

That forest looks like such amazing habitat!

Cheers,
Gordon
