Ok, so I'm exagerating a bit :)

But I'm still feeling <!-- s:bouncy: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/bouncy.gif" alt=":bouncy:" title="Enthusiastic" /><!-- s:bouncy: --> <!-- s:yes: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/yes.gif" alt=":yes:" title="Yes" /><!-- s:yes: --> <!-- s:spin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/spin.gif" alt=":spin:" title="Spinning" /><!-- s:spin: --> <!-- s:sonar: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sonar.gif" alt=":sonar:" title="Sonar" /><!-- s:sonar: --> :P about this mornings sightings.

After having about 5 very cryptic unconfirmed sightings of these little raptors over that last 3 years in the garden, this morning I had the pleasure of watching two adults plus a spotty brown juvenile gliding around at ease over my house, with palm swifts having the odd go at them, and the adults having a bit of a go at the youngster as well. I even had time to fix my bino's on them for a good look. The white rump is probably the best ID feature when they glide around like this!!!

I think I have had the best March-April garden birding in years, with almost daily sightings of steppe buzzard (the go away birds let rip everytime they see one), plus a lot of new ones to the garden list such as paradise fly catcher, streaky head canary, thick billed weaver, spotted eagle owl (female), pin tailed wydah, Swansons francolin, spotted thicknee. A lot of this is due to the neighbouring stand being cleared of houses. Although I'm not sure how long this is going to last for?

Mossie,

Orchards/Norwood area.

I was a little nervous, but my wife looked at them with her eagle eye, and that seemed to keep them at bay <!-- s:duck: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/duck.gif" alt=":duck:" title="Fear" /><!-- s:duck: -->

Our childminder now pipes up, that she has even seen them often in the garden, once with prey in hand!!!

Perhaps I should spend more time at home.

M.
