Hi all.

Gordon, Karl and I set off early for Leeupan to see if we could locate the Lesser Black-backed gull. We got there just before 06h00 and were the first to arrive.

After 10 minutes of slowly working our way across the shoreline we found the bird, got out and setup the scope. Pretty soon many others arrived and simply had to stroll up to the scope, have a glance through and smile....

Many efforts to get closer did result in the bird flying back and forth, giving a few good photo opportunities.....

In addition to the rarity, the birding there is excellent and we saw Cape Teal, Little Stint, Greater Flamingo and many other excellent waterbirds.

The grasslands around also provided for nice birding and photo opportunities in Black-shouldered Kite, Cape Longclaw and we also heard Pink-billed Lark calling from a field but could not stop to long to get a fix on it.

Overall an awesome birding morning.
