Just back from a week in the DRC where I was selecting the site for a field exploration camp near Kolwezi (on a tree-covered north-facing slope overlooking a lake!). There is no shortage of birds in the area, with several unrecognised calls heard and at least two unfamiliar green/brownbuls seen. I will be spending up to 50% of my time there over the next few months and will definitely take along the Canon on the next few trips, so that I can hopefully post some photos of non-Southern African birds, although only about 10% of the birds in the area don't occur south of the Zambezi.

On this trip I managed to add Western Marsh-Harrier and Yellow-mantled Widowbird to my Roberts list, but will no doubt wait several years to add them to my Southern Africa list, particularly the second.
