Margaret created the topic: Food for Fiscal Shrikes?
While spending christmas at Arabella Estate on the Bot River Lagoon, outside Hermanus in the Western Cape, I observed huge numbers of Swallows, literally thousands, mostly Barn Swallows but many Greater Striped as well. Also plenty of Fiscal Shrikes, almost one in every bush.

On my last day, I watched one Fiscal Shrike catch a GSS Swallow by flying straight into the swirling flock and grabbing it. It flew off with one foot firmly clasping the swallow neck. It also came back a few minutes later for another go, with no luck.

Perhaps this why there are so many Fiscal Shrikes, they have learnt to catch Swallows. I wonder if their numbers drop once the Swallows migrate?
