Gordon,

Check out my submission "Desert v Zitting Cisticola" of Dec 8 last year (1 day off being one year ago exactly!) in the Bird ID forum.

I think my juvenile Levaillants is a dead ringer for your photo.

Hi Neil,

I am not so sure. If you look at your photo everything is very similar except for the tip of the tail. Have a look at your juv. Levaillants, then my picture above. In your photo the tail is uniform all the way to the tip whereas mine shows black with a white tip. Would this then not make this Zitting? (does Levaillants ever show white edging to the tail?)
I do think/suspect it is a juv though, with that yellow base to the bill.

Cheers,
Gordon

Doug replied the topic:
Of course the problem is the very young birds tail patterns may well vary from the adults. I would said Zitting could be ruled out based on the rufous crown, the rufous wing panels and the darkish back. They all look wrong for Zitting so I would say that I would go with Levaillant's.

Doug
