Paid a very quick visit to the exploration site in the Hotazel area, arriving 4pm yesterday and leaving 10am this morning. This was just long enough to add Capped Wheatear to my 1/4 degree sheet list for this area.

This nudged me over the 50% mark - 50% of the recorded species for the sheet as listed on the Roberts Multimedia CD. I've only achieved this for one other sheet, being the Crocodile Bridge/Ngwenya Lodge area.

Does anybody else look at their lists in this way?
Or use other benchmarks?

Hi Neil,

I like to use either the list provided by the reserve or if available I try to use the BIRP lists to gauge how many of the available species I have managed to see.

I think it keeps your interest up a little more if you know there is still a challenge to find something that you know should be there...

Cheers,
Gordon

.....especially when you know that you are missing some common species from your list.

After 5 months of combing 20sq.km of the farm I still couldn't locate a Larklike Bunting or Cape Penduline-Tit!
