lI was lucky enough to see Blue Swallows at Kaapsehoop on 29th March. Nic Squires and Enos found three, one male, one female and one juvenile, and they performed beautifully, flying low around us and then perching. What a magnificent sight and I was very lucky they were still around. They must have departed soon after this date.

Also found Bush Blackcap at the Kaapsehoop forest area, Buffstreaked Chat, Drakensberg Prinia and Wailing Cisticola in the same area, but thick mist blocked views of any more birds.

We visited the Crowned eagle nest site and had great views of the white juvenile.

I stayed at Pine Lake Country Estate which has its own forest with birding trails and what a great birding area. Good spot for Wryneck just outside the forest!

You were extremely lucky, I went to Kaapsehoop on the 8th April with Enos but unfortunately it seemed that the Blue Swallows had already left. No Bush Blackcap either.

Hi Margaret,

Well done on the Blue Swallow!

I still have to see that one.

Cheers,
Gordon
